A type of attack that makes a computer resource or resources unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DDoS attack vary, the attack generally consists of the concerted efforts of a group that intends to affect an institution’s reputation by preventing an Internet site, service, or application from functioning efficiently. DDoS are often fueled by hijacking computer power (e.g., IoT devices) to achieve malicious ends.
