James C. Lam is a highly regarded risk management professional and board director. He leads James Lam & Associates, an enterprise risk management consulting firm serving clients across various industries. He has been recognized as a world-leading risk consultant by clients and peers in a Euromoney survey.
Mr. Lam has extensive experience in the industry, having served as the Founder and President of ERisk, Partner at Oliver Wyman, and Chief Risk Officer at Fidelity Investments. He was awarded the inaugural Risk Manager of the Year Award from the Global Association of Risk Professionals in 1997.
In his board roles, Mr. Lam has served as Chair of the Board, Vice Chair of the Board, and Chair of the Risk, Audit, and Compliance committees. His experience includes public company board service at E*TRADE Financial, where he chaired the Risk Oversight Committee. Mr. Lam currently serves as an independent director at RiskLens and the FAIR Institute. He was recognized as one of the most influential corporate directors by the National Association of Corporate Directors in 2017 and 2018.
Mr. Lam is the author of Enterprise Risk Management (Wiley, 2003; second edition, 2014), which has ranked #1 best-selling among 25,000 risk management titles on Amazon. The book has been translated into Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, and Korean. His second book, Implementing Enterprise Risk Management, was published by Wiley in 2017.
Mr. Lam graduated summa cum laude with a B.B.A. from Baruch College and received an M.B.A. with honors from UCLA.
