James has extensive experience advising clients on a wide variety of technology, procurement and governance matters. Over the years, he has provided close daily support to in-house procurement and technology teams, assisting them to achieve their commercial and risk management goals on numerous software, cloud, consultancy, market data, index licensing and other transactions. James has worked with compliance and risk departments to help organisations comply with regulatory requirements affecting IT and operations functions. James has also advised on the IT aspects of recovery and resolution strategies for investment banks, having first-hand experience of resolving the legal issues arising after the insolvency of a major investment bank. In addition, James advises on open source licensing and is a BlackDuck certified legal professional.
Acting as lead counsel on data centre deals in the U.S., Europe and Asia and on global network agreements, James has also advised IT management on BPO and IT offshoring strategy and the establishment of ITO operations in Central and Eastern Europe. Further, as a former in-house privacy officer for European operations of a global investment bank, James brings his deep understanding of compliance matters to the practice of law. A recognised expert on legal aspects of financial services IT, James has spoken at conferences on market data and banking IT.
Outside of financial services, James has advised on technology aspects of airliner purchases (including for Airbus A380s), energy projects in the Middle East and on large rail projects.
