John Carlson

Former Executive, Amazon Web Services, FS-ISAC, BITS

John Carlson has extensive experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, public affairs, strategic planning, and management. Carlson most recently served as the global financial services industry lead for security assurance at Amazon Web Services (AWS) where he developed strategies for addressing regulatory challenges for financial services sector, developed comment letters, and sponsored academic research. Prior to AWS, Carlson served as the chief of staff of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), executive vice president of BITS, managing director of operational risk at Morgan Stanley. Carlson also served in a variety of roles in the public sector at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), U.S. Office of Management and Budget, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Carlson received a Masters of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a BA from the University of Maryland.
