A covered entity can be an individual, organization, and/or an agency who must comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to protect the privacy and security of health information and must provide individuals with certain rights related to their health information (i.e. Doctors, Health Insurance Companies, healthcare clearing house).
